Profile Pictures is a Johannesburg based production company owned and run by director / producer duo Andries and Angela van der Merwe. The duo each have over 25 years experience in the South African film, television, advertising and marketing industry. We formed the company due to our passion for storytelling and our desire to head an outfit that works with honesty and integrity, with a view to building and enriching not only the African film and television industry, but also that of its communities.

 

Andries’ experience includes head creative direction on multiple acclaimed dramas, reality shows, gameshows and telenovelas including household names such as The Queen, Ashes to Ashes, The Estate, Rockville and Kings of Jhb.

 

Angela brings a wealth of production and post production knowledge and experience in both the short and longform sectors. She has created content for countless international brands including Coca Cola, Adcock Ingram, Mondelez and Sandoz and also headed up production / post on numerous series’ and features including Cop and a Half, Umlilo, Rockville and Miners Shot Down. 

 

Our vision is to utilize our combined knowledge, experience, contacts and skills to tell African stories that have an international appeal, sourcing gear, crew and talent from African pools.
